next snapshot

I think I have merged all the outstanding patches.  I do not see any new
build failures but still need to look at the logs for warnings.  Then we
are on the way to the next snapshot.  Hopefully this is the last pre-beta4
snapshot.  Then with any luck beta4 can magically turn into 4.0.  :) 

If there are any outstanding patches or problems you think I might not
have included, let me know.

I try to acknowledge individually each patch when I merge it.  So if you
sent me something and did not get a merger acknowledgement, let me know.
