who are the pc386 RTEMS users?

Depending on how far you are getting, this may be a good start.

Look in the beta3 directory for grub144.*.  dd that to a 3.5" floppy and  
boot it.  That gives you a menu and a selection of prebuilt tests.  They
are not from the current source though.

netboot is the best option (if possible) in a development environment.    
Someone else should comment more on that.
