File System Interface

Subject: File System Interface

My embedded system running RTEMS needs to access its host's file system.  I would like to hook it in to be able to use the fopen, fread, fwrite etc. functions of newlib.  The code in libio.c from version 4.0.0 looks like it is close but not complete. What is their looks like it is mostly for sockets but with some more work would also support normal files. Is there any ongoing effort to complete this interface?  

If I complete it what is the procedure for contributing it to the public release?
