I would not consider using a maintained version "beyond-bleeding edge".

I cannot comment on 1.94 but I am using grub-1.96 with qemu and real hardware 
with RTEMS and have no problems.

Maybe they need to consider changing as GRUB Legacy is no longer being 
maintained. ;-)
