The terms free and open source software are often used interchangeably. This is incorrect as there are subtle yet important differences in the definitions of these terms. The software listed on this page includes software which properly falls into either category. No attempt has been made to distinguish which terms applies to a particular package.

  • SPU-Toolbox is a computer vision centric C++ API for frame-rate sensor control under Linux. It includes multithreaded facilities for Video for Linux (V4L) video capture, rapid display of images for the X Window System, and pan-tilt unit control.
  • camE is a Webcam grabber designed for video4linux devices. It is based on the xawtv webcam app, but extended to use imlib2 for applying antialised, blended truetype fonts to the image before upload. A large number of new options have been added including scp support (in addition to ftp), image archiving, and much more. It runs as a daemon and needs no X connection to operate.
