RTEMS Applications

While the information on here is by no means complete, it is my attempt to begin collecting links to RTEMS applications. If you know of something in particular I should list here, please let me know.

  • Zetron Simulcast Paging System is a family of devices that uses RTEMS on the MPC860. This is a complicated system with multiple units transmitting the same data from multiple sites, and the bit edges from each transmitter are aligned to within +/- 500ns (using a GPS receiver at each site for time reference). The bit alignment is done using RTEMS-managed interrupts and the 860's onboard timers. This application was reported by Phil Torre.
  • Vyacheslav V. Burdjanadze reports that Zelax uses RTEMS in their routers and satellite modems. He also reports that NSG uses RTEMS in a variety of their communications products.
  • Flight Data Recorder is for flight tests and similar applications. It connects to the various communications and sensors in the aircraft and records the traffic and I/O, analog data with high resolution time stamps. It also allows to synchronize the on-board VTR with our data. We also have developed the PC-based debriefing application which presents the recorded data for the post flight analysis synchronized to the VTR, allowing the flight test engineer to analyze the A/C data synchronously to the video picture. Today's project state allows date recording from MuxBus-1553*3, Arinc-429*4, RS-422*5, I/O*16, A/D*8. Everything is stored on two PCMCIA flash cassette in FAT16 format. Reported by Dr. Leon M.Pollak.
  • Avionics Validation System
  • video of an RTEMS controlled robot solving the Towers of Hanoi. (Juan Zamorano)
  • Avenger STC uses GNAT/RTEMS.
  • Canadian Light Source is using RTEMS to control the Canadian Light Source (300 MeV electron linear accelerator, 300 MeV->2.9 GeV booster ring, 2.9 GeV synchrotron storage ring) synchrotron light source. I'd say that is a pretty serious (quasi-)industrial application. Reported by Eric Norum.
  • NASA Goddard OS Group has selected RTEMS for use on the upcoming satellite constellation technology development mission called ST-5. Reported by Gregory Menke.
  • Andrew N. Maximov reported that the application he works on results in an executable that really is 5MB stripped and booted by LILO (PC386 BSP?). Their application includes includes the PWLIB, OpenH323 libraries as well as SS7[MTP,ISUP] and ISDN protocols stacks.
  • Communication Automation Corporation sells a VME board which has an IDT 32367 MIPS processor. An RTEMS BSP is provided with the board. The board also supports 6 mezzanine module sites which can be populated with other MIPS processors including IDT 4700, 5000 and QED 7000. RTEMS is also supported for the MIPS modules. The mezzanine sites can alternately be populated with various DSP processors or interface modules such as ATM, Ethernet, E1, T1 or audio.
  • DATA-CHASER was a student-designed, student-built, and student-operated space experiment which flew on space shuttle Discovery mission STS-85.
  • Labomat3 is a MC68360 based board that runs Kaffe.
  • RTSCM - Radiation Tolerant SPARC Computer Module includes an RTEMS BSP.
  • High Performance Computer for Space Based Radar
  • trantechnik uses RTEMS in both their dimmer processors (FDX2000) and their ethernet DMX converters ( E-Gate Plus/Pro/Max ). For anybody in Germany that every watched, Pro7/SAT1/ARD/WRD/ZDF/etc. or went to any of the major theaters here or in Austria, you would have been watching a black screen or dark stage without RTEMS :-) Or when any of you saw the Euro Vision song contest, that also used E-Gates for their DMX distribution, and hence would have been impossible without RTEMS. Reported by Erwin Rol.
